    What is Chicken Pizza Crust?

You might have been wondering what is a real good pizza crust made of? Well, this chicken pizza crust is a pizza crust made entirely out of chicken! It's absolutely delicious and very filling. It can be made using cooked chicken, canned chicken and ground chicken.

This keto chicken pizza crust is very low in carbs and high in protein because it doesn't contain any flour or starches.  It's the perfect low carb crust alternative.

Low carb chicken crust can be eaten as a meal on its own as it's extremely filling.  If you take the additional toppings and sauce that we put on top of the keto chicken crust, you'll have yourself a complete meal filled with protein, vegetables and fats.

The typical keto chicken crust is made with a blend of chicken, cheese and eggs, but I'll also introduce a dairy free version in this recipe.

What does chicken crust pizza taste like?

Chicken pizza crusts tastes like chicken! Don't expect it to taste like a wheat pizza as it won't.  It's made entirely out of chicken, so it shouldn't be tasting like anything other than chicken!

Why is Chicken crust pizza better than fathead?

I find chicken crust pizza is much better than the popular fathead pizza because it's less heavy and cheesy.  Fathead contains so much fat from the nuts and cheese that you get full pretty quickly.  I always feel quite bloated after eating it, so I prefer making a low carb pizza crust that isn't nut and cheese based.

This keto chicken pizza crust recipe also has significantly less calories than the standard fathead pizza crust.

What Kind of Chicken Can I Use?

The wonderful thing about this keto chicken crust is that you can use any type of chicken to make it.   It's a pretty versatile low carb pizza crust to make.

    • Ground Chicken: Use raw ground chicken mixed with herbs, eggs and cheese to make a sturdy pizza crust.
    • Rotisserie Chicken: You can also use rotisserie chicken, or chicken breasts that's already been cooked and shredded to make this keto chicken pizza crust.
    • Canned Chicken:  If you don't have access to fresh chicken or rotisserie chicken, you can still use canned chicken.  Simply shred the chicken before using.

    Chicken Pizza Crust Nutrition

This keto chicken pizza crust only has 2.28g net carbs for ¼ of the recipe.  A traditional pizza would have more than 75g of carbs so this low carb pizza crust recipe is just absolutely amazing!

This chicken pizza crust has the following nutritional information for ¼ of the recipe.

    • 275 calories
    • 16.03g fat
    • 2.28g net carbs
    • 29.69g protein

How to Make a Keto Pizza with Chicken Crust

You might be wondering you to make keto chicken crust pizza, but it's actually quite simple, actually too simple!  Whether you choose to use shredded chicken, ground chicken or canned chicken, you can easily make this low carb chicken crust recipe.

In a large bowl, you're simply going to add all of the ingredients into it and mix with a spatula.  Make sure all of the ingredients are evenly mixed before moving to the next step.

Add some piece of parchment paper over a baking tray, or use a pizza stone if you have one, and spread the chicken crust evenly onto the paper into any shape you want.  This time I chose to do a large rectangle, but you can do any shape you feel like eating.

Place the baking tray into the oven and bake for 20 minutes.  Take the tray out of the oven and top with your choice of low carb toppings and pizza sauce.

Place back into the oven and bake for an extra 20 minutes.  The crust is now ready to be served!

    Dairy Free Chicken Pizza Crust

If you choose to make a dairy free chicken pizza crust, you'll be adding the ground chicken, spices, nutritional yeast (for that cheesy flavor), coconut flour and an egg.

You'll mix all of that together and repeat the same steps as the chicken pizza crust above.  The only thing different is the ingredients, but the recipe stays the same.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Before making the recipe, make sure to read all of the frequently asked questions, tips and possible substitutions.

How long does this low carb chicken pizza crust last in the fridge?

It doesn't last too long as it is meat.  It stays fresh for up to 5 days in the fridge.  If you don't plan on eating it that fast, then simply freeze it for later.

Can I freeze this chicken pizza crust?

Yes, you can. Simply freeze the crust after it's been baked.  I usually freeze it after baking it for 20 minutes.  I put it in small Ziplocs and cut it into portion sizes. It'll keep in the freezer for about a month.  If you want to freeze it longer than that, I recommend getting a food saver so that you can vacuum seal it.

When ready to serve, simply microwave and bake it again in the oven, top it with your favorite low carb ingredients and low carb pizza sauce and bake it once more per the original instructions.

Image showing how to freeze a low carb chicken pizza crust.

Can I make this chicken crust dairy free?

Yes, you can.  Simply scroll down to the recipe to access the dairy free version.

Can I make it a thick crust?

Yes, you can.  Just don't spread the crust as thin. Spread it as thick as you want then bake it.

Can I make it a thin crust?

You can spread it pretty thin, but don't spread it too thin as you won't be able to hold a slice with your hands as it may break apart.  If you do want to spread it extremely it, just use a fork and knife to eat it.

How can I up the flavors?

Change up the spices, alternate the cheese and use different toppings and sauces.

Have you had any success with, or would you have any recommendations for, substituting the egg(s) for gelatin or flax/chia eggs?

Hi Allison, I've never really experimented with egg free baking, but I'm sure a flax egg would help?
Let me know if you try!

We made this last night. VERY successful.
Used 3lbs boneless, skinless thighs, ground in food processor. Worked just fine. All times seemed very good. Topped with sauce, red onion, red pepper, spinach, basil, Parmesan cheese. Eagerly consumed cold for lunch, today.
Looking forward to trying it again and topping with pesto, onions, sun dried tomatoes, Parmesan. Thank you so much for your great recipes!

This recipe sounds great but confusing. It doesn’t say to cook ground meat first. Should it be cooked or not?

Hi Kelly, the ground meat cooks in the oven for 40 minutes so you don't need to precook it. I also included pictures for every step of the recipe in the blog post.

Hey sorry what do you mean baking powder and yeast?
If you mean the nutritional yeast, you can just leave it out since it's just there for that cheesy flavor. Nutritional yeast and yeast are two different ingredients not used the same way.

Hi! If I’m using pizza stone, do I still need to put parchment paper down?
Also, how come the baking times are the same for both raw chicken and pre-cooked chicken? If the bake time is to cook raw chicken all the way through- won’t it leave the pre-cooked chicken dry?

Hi Nadira, I would use parchment paper on the stone. The baking time is the same as the eggs and cheese still need to cook. The shredded chicken crust won't be dry, it will still be crispy/juicy like the ground meat one.
